Carbon Cartridge Filters - Carbon Cartridges

Basically, we consider two different types of Carbon Cartridge Filters. Both types use activated carbon. As we can see in the illustrations, the cartridges are very different. Interestingly enough, the more recent development is the Batt Type Carbon Cartridge because of developments in pulverizing and entrapping the activated carbon in filter media batts.

The canister type carbon Cartridge Filter holds much more carbon by weight and is used in process applications where adsorbing organics is important. This filter requires lower flow rates - less than 1.0 GPM per 10" Carbon Filter Cartridge.

The Batt Type cartridges are used primarily for potable water and also as pretreatment in water purification systems. Where the Batt Type is used for potable water systems, the primary function is for taste and odor removal. For pretreatment in water purification systems the carbon batt cartridges are used primarily for chlorine removal and secondarily for organics removal in incoming water system supplies.
